  • The view from the plane window. Puerto Princesa, Palawan. This is where we would take the boat to Tubbataha.
  • One of the dinghies of the M/Y Navorca. Picking us up to so we can see the our home for the next week.
  • The M/Y Navorca. The vessel of the WWF. 80 plus feet with a displacement of 70 tons. Sea worthy and expertly handled.
  • The Navorca's mooring in Palawan.
  • One night of travelling brought us to Tubbataha reef one minute early, 5:59 am.
  • The sandbar in the rangers station.
  • Stuff to wear in Tubbataha. The baller with the word "Tubbataha" was given to us by the Tubbataha Management Office, an incredible group of dedicated people who work hard 24/7 to keep the area safe. The WWF is one of the main partners in keeping Tubbataha protected and well managed. It was a great feeling to be on this trip with such dedicated eco warriors.
  • Two Whiskered Terns and a Brown Noddy enjoying the great morning. Whiskered Terns are the birds that got us into birding. They don't usually visit Tubbataha, I guess they wanted to greet us.
  • Early morning on North Island.
  • Parola Islet
  • The rangers of Tubbataha. They keep the poachers out and protect the reefs and the islands. They an important part of a uniquely successful Philippine conservation story.

  • Milky Way
  • It was 2:00 am. The stars were out and there was no moon. In the distance lightning was casting an amazing orange glow. I tried to capture the image of the lightning briefly lighting our tent and the Milky Way overhead.
